Ensuring accurate location data for Family Orbit is crucial for effective monitoring. If you're experiencing difficulties in seeing updated location data for a member's phone, follow the guidelines below based on the device platform to resolve the issue.
iPhone App:
In iOS 13 and above, Apple has introduced changes that disable background location tracking by default. To enable this feature, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings on the child's iPhone.
- Select Privacy.
- Tap on Location Services.
- Locate 'FamilyOrbit' and select 'Always.'
If this setting is not turned on, the app won't fetch background location data. Additionally, Apple iOS may prompt the active user periodically to approve location sharing. If the child turns off location sharing, the app stops sending location data.
To resolve this, open Settings on the child's iPhone, scroll down to 'FamilyOrbit,' and change the Location Services option to On. Ensure all other options are also turned on. Run the app once afterward to sync to the new location.
To prevent your child from turning off location or removing the app, you can use Apple's Restrictions features. More information can be found here.
Android App:
If you are facing location update issues on an Android device, please refer to this link for guidance. Additionally, ensure that the Family Orbit app on your child's Android phone has the correct permissions:
- Go to Settings -> Apps and look for 'Family Orbit.'
- Tap on Permissions and ensure all permissions are turned on.
- Check if Location Services is turned on and set to High Accuracy.
iCloud Method:
It's also possible that Family Orbit's authorization to access iCloud has been revoked. You will receive an email alert if this is the case. Ensure that the Find My service is enabled for location tracking to work properly.
